don’t feed the animals

it is bitter, this food in my mouth.  my tongue curls and my stomach churns.  nothing is done for my hunger.  i drink water to fill the empty place in my gut, to wash the taste of distaste from the buds.  a cramp, rising to rest on my solar plexus, pressing deeply.  a sigh from my lips to release some pressure, but still my head swims and my heart is heavy.

i’ll eat these strawberries instead.
