Salton Sea Situation

The Great Salt Lake is dying, its lakebed becoming playa. As it shrinks it becomes more potent, despite the remnants of its salts blowing in the breeze. It is toxic, this desiccation. (Just as the waters are becoming to the life it once sustained.) This dust of our bad decisions chokes us, poisons us through our pores as it clogs our lungs. It only serves us right for not learning the lesson before. Through a deluge we filled the Salton Sink, the home of an ephemeral sea. We built along its banks, afflicted its water with nitrates and salts, and watched it die. So to, did the shrinking sea expose playa, and the deleterious particulates contained within. We knew then the damage of drying, of the folly of humans. But we did it again. We may not have birthed the Great Salt Lake, but we are watching it die. And as it dies, it will take some of us with it, gasping on its shore.
